Hills and Mountains

When we sing about the purple mountains majesty, I cannot help but get a vision in my head of the mountains that I have seen in my life, from the ground, from the air. In the air, all things tend to look small, but the 12000 foot Mt Hood will get your attention, particularly when you get within a couple of miles. The mountains have always held my awe. One wonders how they came about, how long they have stood the test of time, and now that I stare out the bay window at Mt. St. Helens, one hopes it will continue. This was man’s first opportunity to understand the bird’s eye view, long before aircraft became a reality.
